Kate Upton themed shoot

Donna Lăzărescu as Kate Upton

Kate Upton has many iconic sets, but one which Donna and I found to be ideal to recreate was her GQ Magazine bikini shoot where she was rolling around on grass. (http://www.gq.com/women/photos/201207/kate-upton-gq-photos-july-2012#slide=16) Donna has a stunning yellow bikini and amazing look with ample form so we knew this series was going to be an eye catcher.

I decided to choose a different method in lighting this set than before. I recently purchased a Cowboy Studio 2500w Fluorescent Light Bank (http://www.cowboystudio.com/product_p/2x%204%20bank%20-%202x%20806a.htm) Although this light is intended for video I wanted to experiment with a new concept and Donna was willing to be my test. It much easier than I thought it would be to get the lighting to appear the way I wanted it to. This bank is very controlled and has a set of barn doors built in which made narrowing the beam easy.

After setting up the heavy duty light stand I adjusted the barn doors and set Donna in position. A few quick test shots revealed adjustments that needed to be made in my camera settings and I eventually settled on 1250 ISO with a F-Stop of 8.0 and Aperture of 160. My kelvin setting was at 5200 and the bank was at half power. For those interested I shot this with a Canon 5D MKii with a TAMRON SP 70-200mm F/2.8 Di VC USD A009 at 117mm focal length.

The final result was an amazing set with the absolutely gorgeous Donna Lăzărescu.
